Screening

The VSY Volunteer Program continues to have the highest standards in screening all its volunteers via an extensive application process. Candidates may be invited to attend the training sessions if they meet the requirements for their role of interest:

  • Administrative Volunteer
  • Volunteer Board Member
  • Victim Response Volunteer
  • Team Leader

The screening process includes:

  • Volunteer Application

Panelled Interview

All interviews are held at the York Regional Police 5 District Headquarters building which is located at 8700 McCowan Road in Markham (north of Hwy 7, south of 16th Avenue at Carlton Road). Applicants will be asked to call VSY when they receive their Vulnerable Sector Screening letter to arrange an interview time. Applicants must bring their Vulnerable Sector Screening (Criminal Record Check) letter and valid 'G' driver's licence to the interview held Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm a few weeks before the training sessions begin.

Reference Checks

    VSY requires all volunteer to submit at least 3 references which include:
  • current supervisor(s)
  • any past volunteer supervisor(s)
  • personal referee(s)
